How could you know so well how Tom could feel? How do we spot this in our children? How do we turn the noise down? My heart is racing and also it feels like a fist is squeezing it hard.
Good story. The end was nice. A kinda turning upside down of the meet cute. The prose was clear and matched the narrative world. It dealt with edgy material without being annoying or edge lord. There's an element that made it feel like it could've been built out more and we needed more time to get to know more of the characters almost like a serial or just as the earlier draft for a later novel. Maybe I'm too used to more slice of life short fiction. I like the dark humor tone, works here. Six feet under had best dark humor ever!
Tom really struck a chord with me. He reminds me of my brother, who killed himself almost ten years ago. He had everything going for him, it seemed, from the outside. No problems. For some reason the thought of him wishing for quiet his whole life made so much sense to me. Thank you.
